March 27, 2020

Dear WHEC Parents/Guardians,

We hope that you and your families are doing well during this time! As we move forward
through this process as a school community, we wanted to provide you with some information regarding the school closure, online education and learning activities, and other items of importance. Our teachers and staff have been working hard to develop learning opportunities for all of our students, we are excited to begin our online learning journey and thank you for partnering with us as our students continue to grow. Please know that we will continue to provide you with updates and information as we navigate this landscape together.

Closure:
Governor Wolf extended the closure of all PA schools for students through at least April 8,
2020. In addition to our schools being closed, all athletics, extra-curricular events, and
community use of District facilities are canceled through April 8, 2020. We expect that this
closure may be extended and are monitoring information.
To comply with the Governor’s order regarding access to school for essential personnel only, we are not allowing student or parent/guardian access to our buildings at this time.

Online Education:
• WHEC teachers participated in training sessions this week to strengthen their ability to
provide online education.
• Each grade level will provide specific online learning opportunities for all students.
• Grade level communication will follow and online opportunities will begin the week of
March 30-April 3 and include instructions for each grade level, usernames/passwords for
access to added educational platforms to be utilized, and other instructions needed to
support learning within each grade level.
• Our teaching staff will continue to utilize ClassDojo and school e-mail to connect with
families during this time. Please also utilize school e-mail to connect with school
counselors and school health services as needed.
• Additional resources and information is available on our District website at the following
link:

• As we move forward, online education will continue to improve for our students,
teachers, and parents/guardians each week. There will be questions and challenges to
overcome. We ask for the support of our students, staff and parents/guardians as we
implement this new program.

Technology:
• Our Technology Staff is currently focused on distributing devices to families without
technology resources while implementing several new platforms to enhance remote
learning. Hyperlinks to frequently used online applications can be found at the following

during this difficult time.

Special Education:
If your child receives special education services, you will be contacted by their special education case manager and/or special education teacher. The special education department will be providing your child with some, if not all, of their specially designed instruction and related services. This instruction will be developed on an individualized basis and will be communicated to you within the next week.
