SCHOOL-PARENT COMPACT

The Wyomissing Area School District and the parents of the students participating in activities, services, and programs funded by Title I, Part A of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act agree that this compact outlines how the parents, the entire school staff, and the students will share the responsibility for improved student academic achievement and the means by which the school and parents will build and develop a partnership that will help children achieve the State’s high academic standards.

 

 

SCHOOL-PARENT COMPACT PROVISIONS

 

School Responsibilities

 

The Wyomissing Hills Elementary Center understands the importance of the school experience to every student and their role as educators and models. Therefore, the school agrees to carry out the following responsibilities to the best of their ability:

 

 

  1. Provide high-quality curriculum and instruction in a supportive and effective learning environment that enables the participating children to meet the State’s student academic standards.

 

Ø  Reading and mathematics curricula are aligned with Pennsylvania Core Academic Standards.

Ø  Supplemental instruction shall be provided in addition to classroom instruction.

Ø  Student specific data shall be collected to identify student’s strengths and needs.

Ø  Instruction shall be individualized to meet students’ learning deficits.

Ø  Progress towards meeting Pennsylvania Core Academic Standards shall be monitored and reported at regular intervals to parents.

 

 

 

  1. Hold parent-teacher conferences during which this compact will be made available and discussed as it relates to the individual child’s achievement.  

 

Ø  Parent-teacher conferences took  place on November 20 and 21, 2023.

Ø  Parents may request a conference at any time with the principal, classroom teacher, and/or interventionists.

 

  1. Provide parents with frequent reports on their children’s progress. 

 

Ø  Parents will receive regular reports of their student’s academic progress, as well as regular communication from the school in regards to their student’s performance.

 

 

  1. Provide parents reasonable access to staff. 

 

Ø  Professional staff will be available for consultation with parents by appointment at a mutually convenient time.

Ø  Wyomissing Hills E.C. will promote regular two-way, meaningful communication between family members and school staff, and, to the extent practicable, in a language that family members can understand.

Ø  Parents may contact professional staff via email or voice mail.

 

  1. Provide parents opportunities to volunteer and participate in their child’s class, and to observe classroom activities.

 

Ø  The schools welcome parent volunteers to accompany students on field trips, supervise classroom parties and events, as well as tutor small groups of students.

Ø  Volunteers must apply for clearances to volunteer on a regular basis.  The District will defray the expense of securing the required clearances.

Ø  Parents are invited to observe classroom activities by making an appointment to do so with the teacher and principal.

Parent Responsibilities

We, as parents, will support our children’s learning.

 

1.    Communicate and support the importance of attending school daily.

 

Ø  Monitor regular attendance.

Ø  Minimize early dismissals and late arrivals by scheduling appointments after the school day.

Ø  Observe regular bedtimes to ensure appropriate rest and readiness for the school day.

 

2.  Partner with teachers to promote academic success during the school day.

Ø  Make sure that homework is completed.

Ø  Volunteer, as able, in my child’s classroom.

Ø  Participate, as appropriate, in decisions relating to my children’s education.

Ø  Stay informed about my child’s education and communicating with the school by promptly reading all notices from the school or the school district either received by my child or by mail and responding, as appropriate.

 

3.    Promote learning beyond the school day.

Ø  Limit the amount of television and the appropriateness of programs children watch.

Ø  Promote positive use of my child’s extracurricular time, including reading for recreation and mathematics games.

Student Responsibilities

Students share the responsibility to improve their academic achievement and achieve the State’s high academic standards. 

 

1.    Be prepared to learn.

 

Ø  Get to school on time every day.

Ø  Eat healthy foods daily and get plenty of rest at night.

 

2.  Be productive and positive.

Ø  Do the best work possible and ask for help when help is needed.

Ø  Follow the teachers’ directions and cooperate in all learning activities.

Ø  Develop a positive attitude towards school.

 

3.  Be responsible.

Ø  Use time and materials wisely.

Ø  Complete homework on time and to the best of your ability.

Ø  Give to parents, or the adult who oversees my welfare, all notices and information received from the school every day.
